[Guest Post] Switching Sides – from Mage to Shaman

Gazimoff's shaman, struggling with too many totems

Thank goodness for the kindness of friends. I’ve been stretched very thin recently, what with one thing and another. My good friend Gazimoff, co-host of the Obscurecast, founder of the Mage Forums and blogger, offered to write about his experiences of trying out a shaman character from a mage’s perspective. Huzzah guest post! – Pewter I’ll let you into a secret: when I originally looked at getting into Warcraft back in 2005 I was planning on rolling a shaman. There was a group of us all planning on getting into the game together and we were all getting our...

Share the Love

April 24, 2010

Wow. A lot went on this month. So much went on that I’m really only poking around in the last week or so. This post has taken a looong time to put together. Elemental Love First of all I’d like to give YET MORE link love to Charles/Chayah of Planet of the Hats. He has recently celebrated his 6 month Blogoversary, and has been something of a catalyst for revitalisation in the Elemental Blog community.  I’ve directed so many people to his blog since I first found it, and his guides and insight have been a great boost to...

Elemental Love Letter: Event Horizon

Dear Event Horizon, Let me count the ways in which I love thee….. Or not, I don’t feel particularly poetic at the moment. Most caster DPS will extoll the virtues of Quartz castbar (with built in latency indicator for dealing with lag.) If you are raiding, you are likely to have DBM, Bigwigs or DXE installed. I don’t usually cover addons because I’m not a huuuge customiser of them, and I find I only need a select few. However EventHorizon was something of a game changer for me, when it came to managing DoTs. If you’re already happy with...

Starting Over: Gnome Anklets

March 29, 2010

The questions posted by Blog Azeroth’s shared question this week is what we would do if we started again from scratch with our characters. I find this a difficult question to answer because I’m kind of happy where I am, in game at least, and am not motivated or thinking of a character that might have been. The only situations that I could envisage having to start over completely would be some sort of utter humiliation or outrage with my current guild. I can see myself wishing to leave such a situation behind completely. Even down to mothballing my...

Spec Analysis – Elementary Survival

March 23, 2010

In the wake of this state-the-bleeding-obvious post from wow.com, I thought it would be a good idea to review the things about Elemental Shaman that help us survive those ohshit moments, or simply a fight that requires a lot of situational awareness (as many raid leaders and bloggers like to call it.) Elemental Shamans don’t have a lot of ‘choices’ when it comes to their spec, we’re extremely cookie cutter in order to be viable at the top levels, so I’m going to run through the choices I’ve made when it comes to choosing a survival talent over another...
